The United States is favorable to foreign direct investment (FDI) in China, benefiting the U.S. economy, said Wednesday in Washington U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Gary Locke.
FDI in China are "good for American workers and good for American businesses," said Mr. Locke Center Woodrow Wilson a few days before the third round of Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Washington from both countries.
For decades, the United States welcome foreign investment with a market economy supported by a fair and transparent legal system, the most productive workers and more educated in the world and vast natural resources, "said Locke. "This openness has made the U.S. the largest global destination for FDI," he added.
Obama and the administration wants to keep the United States to the rank of world's best ideas, innovations, and foreign capital, according to Mr. Locke.
Foreign companies employ nearly 5 million Americans in all 50 U.S. states. "And increasingly, we see more investment from China," said Mr. Locke.
According to a report by the Asian Society of the United States and Kissinger Institute on China and the United States, the Chinese FDI in the U.S. totaled $ 5 billion in 2010 and increased rapidly in recent years.
Mr. Locke stated that the U.S. government believes that more Chinese FDI in America are a "good thing".
